Martini “The only American invention as perfect as the sonnet.”, said H.L Mencken about the one of the best known mixed alcoholic beverage.

It is a perfect example that less is always better as with some limited ingredients you get a perfect drink. But one should not confuse it with today’s cocktails as many drinks are named after martini or it ends with ‘tini’ because those drinks are served in martini cocktail glasses. There are various versions of the drink and has evolved.

In New and Improved Bartender’s Manual by Harry Johnson, there is the first written record of martini. The classic martini is made from gin and vermouth but as said there should be no end to experiments- something similar happened with Martini when the ingredients changed in different types of Martini but the essence remained the same. In different versions, sometimes vodka replaces gin or the ratios of the ingredients are changed. Here are some different types of martini that you will love.

DIRTY MARTINI

GIBSON MARTINI

It’s a cocktail made with Gin and dry Vermouth and often garnished by pickled onion.  In its modern incarnation, it’s considered a cousin of the more-ubiquitous martini, distinguished mostly by garnishing with an onion instead of an olive. Here’s how yo can make a Gibson Martini.

VESPER MARTINI

The Vesper or Vesper Martini is a cocktail that was originally made of gin, vodka, and Kina Lillet. The formulations of its ingredients have changed since its original publication in print, and so some modern bartenders have created new versions which attempt to more closely mimic the original taste.

SAKETINI

The saketini is a cocktail that takes sake as its base, along with other ingredients such as simple syrups, liqueurs,distilled spirits, juices and garnishes. The name saketini is a portmanteau of “sake” and “martini”, a cocktail traditionally made from gin and vermouth. Make your own saketini.

ESPRESSO MARTINI

The espresso martini is a cold, coffee-flavored cocktail made with vodka, espresso coffee, coffee liqueur, and sugar syrup. It is not a true martini as it contains neither gin nor vermouth, but is one of many drinks that incorporate the term into their names.

APPLETINI

An Apple martini is a cocktail containing vodka and one or more of apple juice, apple cider, apple liqueur, or apple brandy. This drink, originally called an Adam’s Apple Martini because the bartender who created it was named Adam, was created in 1996 at Lola’s West Hollywood restaurant.

CHOCOLATE MARTINI

BIKINI MARTINI

Bikini martini is Combination of rum, vodka and pineapple juice in a drink shaker. Shake firmly until frothy. Pour in a martini glass, add a touch of grenadine in the middle. Garnish with an orange wheel.
