On December 24th, 2020, Kavita Medar was awarded the world’s fastest female bartender by the World Book of Records for an unimaginable feat: 122 over-the-shoulder flips with two bottles using just one hand in 1 minute.
Flair bartending is a craft that is being pushed to new heights by bartenders like Kavita. So, The Cocktail Story spoke to Kavita about her journey to becoming an integral part of the flair bartending community:
How did you get your introduction to Flair Bartending?
I was born and brought up in Hubli, Karnataka, and had just completed my B.Comm. when my relative – and now mentor, Raj Medar – introduced me to flair bartending. Immediately, I found myself fascinated by the field and made the decision to relocate to Pune and enroll in Flair Mania Bartending Academy.
What was your time at Flair Mania Bartending Academy like?
At FMBA, I dived into perfecting my craft. I used to wake up at 5 am and practice for 8-9 hours daily. Of course, practicing with glass bottles and metal shakers means injury, but I persevered through them.
What was it like to be awarded by the World Book of Records?
It was amazing. All my hard work culminated on December 24th, 2020. Within 1 minute, I did 122 over-the-shoulder flips with two bottles using just one hand. For this, I was awarded the world’s fastest female bartender by the World Book of Records. Usually, the ceremony would take place in London, but COVID-19 restrictions made travel impossible from my side. So, representatives from the World Book of Records visited me in Goa to present me with the award.
What does the future look like for you?
I’m now looking forward to growing FMBA and participating in more competitions all over India and the world.
