During this Covina-19 situation, all the cocktail enthusiasts are setting up their own rescue bars at home. To help our fellow cocktail lovers, we bring to you the TOP TIPS for Home Bartending by Indian Bartenders.
1. Choose your spirits wisely
If you are stocking up for your home bar or have to use spirits to carry out new cocktail experiments, don’t get too excited! Be wise.
Start with these three spirits – Vodka, Gin and Whisky.
2. Invest in the basic bar essentials
You won’t need everything all at once but you do want to get started with a couple basic bar tools. So, get the common and essential bar tools including an ice bucket, bar spoon, muddler, jigger (for measuring shots), a cocktail shaker and strainer.
3. Don’t forget the mixers
We have many artisanal tonic waters available along with the forever used soda, canned juices that won’t expire and quickly are always good to keep around.
If you have or can get your hands on Angostura bitters, do keep it to add flavour in your cocktails.
4. Stock up those fresh fruits
Never underestimate the relationship between fruit and alcohol. Go all experimental with your cocktails and use the fresh fruits in the forms of syrups and garnishes.
5. Ice is vital
Only if you aren’t a huge Hot Toddy fan, don’t forget that ice plays an important role in cocktails. Between chilling down your glasses (filling them with ice, then water, and letting it sit while you make the drink), the ice you add to a shaker to make the drink, and the fresh ice you add back into the glass after chilling – that’s a lot of ice for one cocktail.
You would need a couple ice bags on hand for sure!
6. Be best friends with citrus
Oranges, lemons, and limes are as basic to cocktails as the liquor itself. The difference between a cocktail and an AMAZING cocktail is the fruit juice, never cut a corner with pre-made preservative riddled garbage if you can fresh squeeze it yourself. It’s a pain of course, but so worth it.
6. Go DIY
Creating infusions is trendy, super easy and fun! Though bartending is nothing less than science but you can create these simple infusions like Turmeric infused gin for your next healthy cocktail at home.
